Some news from Kristin at E! online that could potentially make me quite happy. It's looking good for a second season of Friday Night Lights. No official word until May 14, of course.

4/25/07 Top Six Results Show
Idol Gives Back Special

Shocking results? Is Melinda going home? No. Is Jordin going home? No. So… are we going to be shocked?

I like Ellen. She always makes me laugh.

Earth, Wind and Fire? Still great. Loved their medley.

Randy in New Orleans. He has a nice narrating voice.

I’m glad to see them pull some good out of this season.

Quincy Jones. “Time To Care” - the first time I said “wow” all season. That was for Phil. Not cray about the song.

Oooh! It’s Will. Dammit. What’s his real name?

David Schwimmer.

Awwww. Sanjaya in the audience.

Ben Stiller. Ha. That was funny.

I’m a sucker for Simon and Ryan in Africa. It touches me. They were making this joke about Simon wearing the same shirt the whole time and that they were probably only there for ten minutes. I don’t care how long they were there. Because they were there and to me and my weak and unstable emotions, it’s touching.

Hmmm. Does Simon have stage fright?

Eww. I’m not sre who this woman is. Oh. It’s a Desperate Houswives lady. She’s icky looking. Terri Hatcher.

Forrest Whitaker.

Melinda is safe. I’m no shocked yet.

Oh look at that, Paula went out of her way to go to the Boys and Girls Club in Hollywood. Simon and Ryan went to Africa, honey.

Back to Ellen.

Il Divo. I love these guys. Not a whole lot, mind you, since I always forget I like them. But this? I’ll buy from itunes. Yes, I will. Remind me okay? So much easier for me to appreciate when they’re singing in English.

Dr. Phil quotes Abe Lincoln. “you’ll never stand taller than when you stoop to help a child” Nice.

Hugh Laurie. Mmmmm. The accent.

Jack Black!!!! Ooh and Seal.

Blake is safe. I’m a little surprised about that but not really. I think he has great in him so I’m glad.

Carrie Underwood. Gorgeous. Stunning. Loved her rendition of “I’ll Stand By You”. Gorgeous video.

Ellen talking about Sanjaya’s hair.

Rascal Flatts. Always a pleasure. Except for that one video that woke me up once in the middle of the night crying.

Myspace Tom. Hey he’s really cute. I didn’t realize that.

Paula narrating about Kentucky.

Ford commercial. Phil looks good in a cowboy hat. Chris looks good with a dog.
Loved the “Stayin Alive” hickey! I want to rewatch it so I can figure out who all was there.

Phil is safe. Not shocking.

Ryan and Simon in Africa again. Gah. Heartbreaking.

Ellen is donating $100k. If everybody with her kind of money would do that…

Josh Grobin with the African Children’s Choir. When those kids sung by themselves the first time, I lost it and I didn’t recover through the whole song. That was beautiful. I’ll buy that from itunes too.

Chris Daughtry has been to four funerals. I only mention that because… well, because I love Chris Daughtry.

Kelly Clarkson with Jeff Beck. She’s chubby and brunette again. Gorgeous as ever. Wow she’s incredible. I want that dress. Find me that dress.

Simon on the Simpsons. That was hilarious! Marge trying to get her fingers right. Lisa acting drunk. Hah.

Lakisha is safe. I’m a little surprised about that too. But unless it’s Jordin going home, I can’t be shocked.

Duet. Celine and Elvis. That was cheesy and weird but I absolutely loved it.
Ryan told some little girl he would explain that to her. I hope he does it on air because I need some explaining too.

Madonna. She is beautiful.
*runs to check coat pockets for forgotten money*

Annie Lennox. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

Will’s real name? Eric McCormack. That was bugging me.

Okay I am shocked. Nobody’s going home. But they’re sending two home next week. Jeez.

There’s Bono finally. He’s a beautiful man. Inside and out.

Final Six with “American Prayer”. Anddddddddd… my DVR cut off. *rolls eyes*

on a more exciting note for me.

Maksim is so hot. Maksim and Edyta. That's why I watch Dancing with the Stars. MMMMMMMaksim.
4/24/07 Top Six Performance Show

Simon and Ryan in Africa. God, it makes me cry.

Chris “Change The World” - I liked it a lot. The guitarist was great. Chris looked great. Very sincere.

Melinda “There Will Come A Day” - loved it. It was gorgeous. She absolutely knows what she’s singing and that is so so important. “vocal master class”

Blake “Imagine” - one of my favorite songs. Pianist is great. He looks really good. I only wish he sounded as good. The dead eyes were a little distracting because he sounds like he means it. Hello? Toby? Simon is kind of dead on tonight, eh?

Lakisha “I Believe” - icky. She sounds terrible. Like she has to clear her throat or something.

Phil “The Change” - He’s clearly the best of the guys, isn’t he? That was fantastic.

Jordin “You’ll Never Walk Alone” - loved her message before the performance. Hmmmm. I wasn’t as thrilled as everybody else seemed to be.

I was kind of expecting more from this show tonight.

eh. It's hard to rank these people.

Phil
Jordin

Blake

4/18/07 Results Show

Okay. I'm not commenting anymore on the eye roll. I think it got taken WAY out of context. I don't think Chris did anything wrong and I think the only thing Simon did wrong was question his singing style since he sings the same way all the time.

Bucky in the audience!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will admit to loving the group number.
And Fergie. Thought my DH thought she had too many clothes on.
And the Ford commercial. Love those cheesy things.
And I will admit to thinking Chris is really really attractive.

Idol Gives Back. Should be a good night. oh. A good two nights.

oh and the whole making Melinda choose the bottom and top three? old. Ridiculous as usual. Good for Melinda. Ryan had no idea what to do when she sat down on the stage. I offically appreciate her. Maybe she went to see a personality coach?

Bottom three is my predicted bottom three.

Shrek the Third? Antonio Banderas. Voted seven times and he liked all seven. awww.

Martina McBride. I think she did a great job with the contestants and she seems to really care. Loved her before. Love her more now. Daughter is adorable.

I'll miss sweet sunshiny Sanjaya. I would really love to see him succeed.

So I turned my computer off last night before Sanjaya's singout. I was appalled by the complete lack of respect the audience showed this kid. I would have probably shed some tears anyway but when they all cheered, I lost a little bit of whatever good feelings I have left for humans. I mean, wow.

"Let's give 'em something to talk about other than hair." I love Sanjaya.

And Chris? seems to be a REALLY good hugger. I want a Chris hug.

4/17/07 Top Seven (?) Performance Show

Haven't started watching yet. Hockey. It's 9:15. Usually by now I'm getting antsy. Wanting to watch the contestants do their thing. It's country week and I am just sitting here knowing that I'm going to be totally underwhelmed.

I just got back from the store. I met my sister at Target and we each bought a copy of Bucky's CD. I would have bought her a copy too if she asked me to burn it. Need to get those sales up. I was happy she said she wanted to buy it. yay. There are no Buckys this season. And there certainly aren't any Chrisses ~how the heck do you spell plural Chris?~ or Carries or Bos (who are all, admittedly, probably better than my sweet Buckylove). Love the CD though. Good stuff.

Penguins are losing, btw. It's two to one in a MUST WIN game. Four minuts left to go. Can I just say that I love Sidney Crosby? I'm not really into hockey like I was way back when. (When? The late 80s and early 90s, I guess.) This kid is amazing. On the ice and off the ice. Amazing.

Martina McBride. Mmmmm. “Have to believe what you’re singing.” Preach it, Martina. Absolutely.

Phil “Where The Blacktop Ends” - I thought this was really good. Great song choice. Looks good in the all black too. I’m already thinking I underestimated them tonight. I can’t imagine anybody being better than that (for me). It should definitely save him. *rolls eyes at Simon*
Jordin “Broken Wing” - She looks gorgeous. That was great. Great. I’ve been hoping she could do something like this and earn the praise she gets. I’m still not a fan. She loses something with me. I don’t know where or what it is but it’s something important that I don‘t get.
Sanjaya “Something To Talk About” - oh the hair. Oh honey. *sigh* He’d have Simon sing “Shiny Happy People” to show his true personality. Heh. I like him. Say what you will. I don’t think this was the perfect song choice for him but I do get why he picked it.
Simon was too harsh. It was in no way as bad as “anything we see at the beginning” during the auditions. The kid CAN sing.
Lakisha “Jesus Take The Wheel” - Does she have a lisp? Gold boots? Carrie Underwood? Yeah. I’m not loving it. She should be singing this like Lakisha instead of trying to sing it straight out. She definitely has a voice though. Just not for anything I’d listen to. Yep. I agree with Randy too. Judges were right on with this one.
Chris “Mayberry” - the dude playing the violin isn’t real good, is he? Sounds like somebody sat on a cat. Okay. That? Was karaoke. Still liked it. Didn’t love it. But the musicians and the background singers are not doing him any favors. He didn’t connect. I agree with that. He’s likable though. Ew. Simon rolled his eyes when he gave the shout-out to VA Tech. Dude is from Virginia. Of course he’s going to have emotion there.
Melinda “Trouble Is A Woman” - I’m impressed. Yes, I already knew she could sing. But there were like a lot of words to remember in that song. Personality all over the place. Nice. Real nice. LOVE that Simon asked her to lose the surprise when he complimented her. Mmhmm. Yep. I’ll be the first to eat my words if she does win. I won’t vote for her and I won’t buy anything she sells, but… yep.
Blake “When The Stars Go Blue” - Tim MmmmcGraw. Hmmm. I’m not really loving this. There were a couple really wow good notes but they didn’t help his total disconnect from the song. Dead eyes tonight. “Right song”? huh? No. No, it wasn’t.

“Have to believe what you’re singing.” I wish these people would have listened to her.
I love that nobody wore cowboy hats or chaps.
If I were voting tonight, I’d vote for Phil.

Rankings:

Melinda
Phil (I’d buy a Phil does country album. Yes, I would. If he does go that route, he might just be the only one I‘ll support post-Idol.)
Jordin (if we were doing voice alone, I’d put her up top)
Chris
Blake
Lakisha
Sanjaya

I remember watching the first episode of Friday Night Lights with a little bit of doubt that I would continue watching the show. My husband liked it. I appreciated the acting (and Tim Riggins) but I just couldn’t see where they could possibly go with it. I guess I have my husband to thank for my total appreciation of the brilliance I watched unfold for seven months. It’s so funny to be a part of this “cult” following that developed throughout the season. Not funny ha ha but funny hmmm. I feel privileged. Like I got to be a part of something that not many people were involved in. But that’s the sorrow of it too. That a show this good doesn’t have the ratings it would need to have a without-a-doubt second season. NBC has ordered six new episodes. That is wonderful. That is fantastic. But what happens if nobody watches those six episodes either? It’s strange to sit here and try to tell people that they could learn something about life from a television show. That is what I’m telling you though. Just watching the characters develop was fascinating. Every scene from every episode was gorgeous to watch. There were laughs and there were tears. Lots and lots of tears. Sometimes the tears would come from the total amazement and awe of the beautiful delivery of a line or the beautiful camera work. When the Panthers played a game, I sat on the edge of my seat like the Steelers were playing. I feel so invested in these characters. I want to know what happens with Coach Taylor and his family. I want to know what happens with Timmy and Bo. I want to know what happens with Julie and Matt. And Smash and Waverly. And Lyla.

(I’ll edit more in later. I have to do some work.)

Fun Fact: “Devil Town” was written by a guy named Daniel Johnston (Bright Eyes did a brilliant cover. We heard the Bright Eyes version in “State”) a singer/songwriter who has a cult-like following in Austin, TX. There’s a documentary called “The Devil and Daniel Johnston”. He was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and believed the devil was out to get him.

I was living in a devil town
Didn't know it was a devil town
Oh Lord, it really brings me down
About the devil town
And all my friends were vampires
Didn't know they were vampires
Turns out I was a vampire myself
In the devil town
I was living in a devil town
Didn't know it was a devil town
Oh Lord, it really brings me down
About the devil town

Thanks to Velva for this article about Friday Night Lights. Love me some Katims:

"The network has been more supportive of this show than of any other show I've worked on," he says. "The passion we feel from the fans, we feel from the network. And it's to the level where I don't think you can fabricate it.
"If I had to bet, I'd bet we come back next fall, and that's when our fate will really be determined. It's going to be a question of getting traction early in year two that will determine whether we keep going."

4/10/07 Top However Many Performance Show... Eight?

Jennifer Lopez "unstoppable force". Really? Dammit she's gorgeous. I always want to say she isn't but I can't.

Melinda "Sway" - She did this well enough I suppose but I don't like the song. It's overdone or something. And that note at the end? Give it a rest, girl. "Cabaret". yep.
LOL. "He really wanted to say something bad and I'm glad he got the chance." heh.
Maybe she does have a personality. bah. Who cares?

Lakisha "Conga" - Not her best vocal performance but it is my favorite performance of hers since I don't know when. I'm still bored with her though. And I don't think this was her "comfort zone".

Chris "Smooth" - sexy. Liked it. Didn't love it.

Haley "Turn The Beat Around" - Blake with the beatboxing. awww. At least she recognizes her assets. I would think having somebody on this show that is this bad would be embarrassing for them.

Phil "Maria Maria" - liked it all except for those two ouchy screechies.

Jordin "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You" - not hating it. not loving it. not caring.

Blake "I Need To Know" - good song choice. At one spot during the performance where we had a right side profile view, he looked out into the crowd (at Paula?) and pointed and smile. HOTT. He looked realllll good there. Loved it. Nice. Love Blake.

Sanjaya "Besame Mucho" - ahhhhhhhhhhhh. He sounded GREAT during rehearsal with Jennifer. He's looking good. He's sounding amazing. He's eyefucking the camera. Love it. Awesome that he sung it in Spanish. Second best of the night for me. Honestly and truly. Just love this kid.

Friday Night Lights wins Peabody Award. Congratulations to the cast and crew on a much deserved award! They should be throwing lots of Emmys their way too.

Chicago Tribune interview with Taylor Kitsch
This part had me laughing.

“Especially at the beginning, the stakes were so high, ‘We’ve got to get this thing going and get people on board.’ And you’re watching these other actors, watching them bring their game up, and you’re like, ‘I don’t know if I can match these guys right now.’ I’ve caught myself just watching Kyle, just watching other actors, just being a fan. ‘Wow, you’re good today. I’ve got to go back and study some more. A lot more.’ [laughs] [Someone walking by says ‘I’m going to watch ‘The Covenant’ tonight.’] “You haven’t seen it? Just go in with low standards, all right? I apologize. No, I’m kidding. You know what, when I said, being in a box and all that, that movie is the epicenter of that stuff. They didn’t allow us to do anything. And they had us in these shorts, they’re like glorified G-strings. It’s just gross.”

uh yeah. The little swim shorts? Not gross. Best part of the movie, actually. He is so cute.

Awesome TV Guide interview with Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton. This interview made me love them so much more. As if I don't love them enough already.

4/3/07 Top Nine Performanzzzzzz

I can't even fake excitement.

What a horribly boring season this is. I feel so bad for Gina, Blake and Chris because I like them. But this show this season? yikes. If they don't want Sanjaya to win, they totally deserve it if he does. He makes it interesting. He's sweet. Most importantly, he's moldable. And little girls like him.

What the heck are Randy and Paula wearing?

Tony Bennett... 50 years. 106 albums.

Blake "Mack The Knife" - He's sounding fine but I don't love it. Not his fault.

Phil "Night and Day" - Tony says he's a real good singer. Nice. His voice is sounding great. Good song choice. Not sure why the judges thought it was so bad. Awww. He said he was focusing on his wife. Awww.

Melinda "I Got Rhythm" - I don't buy the false modesty anymore. The compliments shouldn't be that shocking at this point. She sounded fanfreakintastic though. No denying that.

Still bored.

Chris "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" - Baby's looking all kinds of good tonight. *shallow* That was a great song choice. He did well. Not boring. Thank you, clonepuppy.

Jordin "On A Clear Day" - don't like it. Sounds whiny and weird. Praise from the judges.

Gina "Smile" - beautiful song. beautiful girl. nicely done. fuck off, Simon.

Sanjaya "Cheek to Cheek" - sooooooo adorable dancing with Paula. Did he sound great? no. Was he boring? no. There is such potential in his voice, I hate when they bag on him. Mold him. Can't beat it, mold it.

Hayley "boobs" - oh that's not the name of the song? "Ain't Misbehavin'" blech. I like her less and less every week. I'm very bitter that she is there at all. She just totally sucks. Love the total non-pimpage. Why is she there? How?

Lakisha "Stormy Weather" - Tony wants her to sing it the way it's written. zzzzzzzzzzz... Did she? Sorry. I fell asleep. Seriously though? Hated it.

Mandisa came in 9th... just sayin.

Rankingzzzzzzzz:

Melinda
Chris
Gina
Phil
Blake
Sanjaya
Jordin
Lakisha
Hayley

Let's see if it changes after the second viewing when I watch with the hubby.
FYI.

There is a BIG difference between Ryan Star and "Ryan Starr". I'm sick of getting email alerts that have nothing to do with the real Ryan.

The talk:

We will all fall:
