4/24/07 Top Six Performance Show

Simon and Ryan in Africa. God, it makes me cry.

Chris “Change The World” - I liked it a lot. The guitarist was great. Chris looked great. Very sincere.

Melinda “There Will Come A Day” - loved it. It was gorgeous. She absolutely knows what she’s singing and that is so so important. “vocal master class”

Blake “Imagine” - one of my favorite songs. Pianist is great. He looks really good. I only wish he sounded as good. The dead eyes were a little distracting because he sounds like he means it. Hello? Toby? Simon is kind of dead on tonight, eh?

Lakisha “I Believe” - icky. She sounds terrible. Like she has to clear her throat or something.

Phil “The Change” - He’s clearly the best of the guys, isn’t he? That was fantastic.

Jordin “You’ll Never Walk Alone” - loved her message before the performance. Hmmmm. I wasn’t as thrilled as everybody else seemed to be.

I was kind of expecting more from this show tonight.

eh. It's hard to rank these people.

Melinda
Phil
Jordin
Chris
Blake
Lakisha

?? I guess ??

We're just gonna have to agree to disagree on Chris. To me he just gets more and more underwhelming every week. He's cute and all, but his performances bore me. Also, his outfit last night was wrong. The top half was "I read GQ once, but I still haven't learned how a tie works" and the bottom was cargo pants... WTF? Also, if you're going to button your jacket then for crying out loud tuck in your shirt!

I DO tell Jordin to stand up straght every time she gets on stage. If you're a tall woman and you want to be an entertainer then take a page out of Storm's book and don't pretend to be tiny. Nobody will buy it from a girl who could possible play linebacker.

If there is any justice in the American voting public, Chris and LaKisha are the bottom two and LaKisha goes home.

oh sweets, I'm very used to agreeing with people disagreeing with me. heh

I found out when I was posting my rankings on RTVW what my problem with Jordin is. I feel like she is somebody who can, in most people's opinion, sing well. I don't feel like she cares about music though. I don't know why I get that vibe from her. Like she's just doing a job when she's on stage. I'd rather get behind somebody who maybe doesn't sing as well (...as people seem to think she sings) than somebody who isn't appreciating the importance of music.

Chris? is cute and he's on a similar path as a lot of people you hear on the radio. I'm not saying I like or dislike the style. (If I were saying though, I do like Justin Timberlake and I do like Jason Mraz~thanks to Chris and HD before him.) Even if I didn't like the style though, I would still appreciate that he is truly and honestly in love with being on that stage and he's not up there strictly because he has a pretty voice.

It will take a lot of convincing for me to believe I'm wrong about that.

If? there is justice in the American voting public? bwahahahaha

That was a joke, right?

I just can't get a favorite this year, at all. I truly don't care who wins. I don't think I would buy a CD from any of these people.

Either Chris doesn't understand what that song is about, or I don't. When I read the lyrics, I don't get that it's about one person wanting to change the world and make it better. Rather, he wants to change it so that the woman he loves, will love him. But that's just how I get the song. Chris did an ok job with the performance though.

Melinda - she may be a great singer, but I just can't stand to watch her on stage. And I hated that dress on her.

I liked Blake. I couldn't believe that Randy and Paula were criticizing his performance as being too low-key or flat. He sang the song how it's meant to be sang.

Lakisha - I'm over her.

Phil - He's meh to me.

Jordin - I thought her voice was very wavery throughout the song (or would that be pitchy??). It sounded like her voice was either cracking or she was running out of breath there at the beginning.

I can't rank them, because to me, no one really stood out as being really great or really bad.

I see a lot of joy in Jordin's performances, but I think she's not quite grown-up enough to convey passion and that's why she likely won't win. I also think that's the source of the "doing a job" vibe that you are getting. The child pure and simple LOVES to sing. She just has a LOT of growing up to do.

On the other hand, many of her song choices reflect her youth which is a wise move on her part. Nobody else in that cast could have gotten away with a Disney ballad like she did, but that's what her emotional level is so it worked for her. Going the "story song" route during country week was also a wise move, because nobody looking at the sheer joy of that child will ever belive she had a rough life, but they might buy it when she tells you about the lady she knows who did have a rough time. ;)

IMO, when her voice is done maturing and she learns to really convey passion, hers will far outshine Melinda's.

Last night was such a snore. Nobody was really that exciting for me. Melinda was great, she's too good for the show. The only reason she hasn't made it big yet is her frumpiness and insecurity.

I love Jordin's voice, but I can't stand to watch her. Thats pretty much how I feel about all of them. It's best to just turn around.

Except Phil, sorry girl I can't stand him. I can't watch or listen to him. He hurts my ears. He tries way too hard
