Rock Star.

I'm panicking. It's not on CBS's summer schedule. Over at rockband.com, it was suggested that we all send letters and emails asking them to bring it back. Somebody said it takes at least 100,000 letters before they pay attention. I've been emailing but I'm a little too lazy to write letters. I think starting tomorrow, I will send a couple letters per week until we hear something.

I just think it is criminal (CRIMINAL) that there are so many talented musicians left unsigned. If one show like this can bring us fifteen of them for a few months, that is huge. I just think what the show brought me last summer and I can't imagine... Without this show... ugh. It's unthinkable. "hope"

Musicians deserve this show and so do those of us who love music.

Yeah, I agree that there are musicians out there who need the exposure, and I love the show, but what rock band should they use? I've heard Van Halen thrown about a few times, but to be honest, as much as I loved the original VH, and the Van Hagar version, I think it would be a waste of time for any singer to think they were actually going to be a lead singer for a prominent band and then stick them in Van Halen. (I know I'm not really getting what I'm trying to say out here, but I just can't find the right words.) I just think, at this point, especially after "Supernova", that the concept became too gimmicky. Unless the house band wanted to try to become recording artists, and needed a singer, I think rockband has become useless. I do think there needs to be some kind of exposure for the musicians, but I don't think the "prize" is much of a prize anymore.

I think what I'm trying to say about Van Halen is, until Eddie Van Halen gets over his arrogance that it doesn't matter who they have as a lead singer, that it's all about the Van Halen brothers, that it would not be a lasting gig (not that it's a guarantee one way or the other) for any lead singer. I think the winner of a Rock Star: Van Halen would not be a winner in any sense.

And I just don't know of any other bands out there that are currently in need of a singer. And I hated the concept of Supernova - it seemed more like they just tried to get some people together to create a band so they would have a prize for the singer who won.

In your first post, you meant "Rock Star" not "rockband" has become useless, right? Either way, I disagree. Respectively. I think this show is important for the music lovers and for the musicians out there trying to be heard. This show has brought us 30 of them so far. Thirty. We still have millions and millions to hear. I can't imagine my life without music and I think it's a crime that there is so much out there that I will never have the opportunity to hear. I want to hear it all. A show like this helps me get closer to that.

As far as who the band is, I don't care. I know there are many people out there that watch this show to see the "new" talent. I may have never heard of a guy who I believe to be the most gifted singer and songwriter I have ever had the pleasure of listening to if this show didn't exist. I was watching last summer's installment yesterday for a bit. There was so much brilliance on that stage. As much as I may have disliked Jill toward the end? That chick can sing. Lukas Rossi? I just can't believe he went 29 years without being in all of our ears... Dave told him after his first performance (Rebel Yell), "The fact that I don't know of you yet, is the reason a show like this is so important." Storm Large? Zayra? Josh Logan? Phil fucking Ritchie? These are true musicians. They deserve to be heard. And I am so glad I got to hear them.

If there are more Chris Daughtrys (different show but you get my drift... he was on the wrong show anyway) and Ryan Stars and Lukas Rossis out there, I need to know about them.

I don't need the drummer, bassist, guitarist, and whatevers to be already famous for me to watch the show. There is a spectacular band out there somewhere in need of a brilliant singer that we need to hear. I have no doubt.

"The fact that I don't know of you yet, is the reason a show like this is so important."

When I was re-watching that first performance show, Josh came on (She Talks To Angels) and I almost started to cry. Why? Because it was so good. He is so good and I have Nickelback and Limp Bizkit playing on my radio.

Neal Carlson
Marty Casey
JD Fortune
Jordis Unga
Suzie McNeil

well... not playing on my radio but you know what I mean.

Yes, I did mean Rock Star, not rock band. Sorry, my brain was not working yesterday. And I completely agree with you that there are so many musicians out there that deserve the exposure a show like this would give them. It is a crying shame that people like Marty and Storm are not on the radio, when less talented people are. (But I do like Nickelback.) I'm not upset that Zayra is not on the radio, though. I'm not dissing her vocal talents, just saying her style is not anything I care to hear.

I think what I was trying to say is that the format of Rock Star needs to be reworked.

I have liked Nickelback. I think I even have a CD.

If I'm not mistaken, MBP had ideas in mind for a band this season.

How would you change the format? Or do you mean just not have a thrown together band just to have the show? Because yeah, I agree, I didn't like the idea of Supernova. Somewhere in the back of my head I have this thought where Tommy met Lukas somewhere and was all "dude, why aren't you signed? Let's find a way to get you out there that I can be involved with it without like starting a label and signing you myself." And this was a good way to do that. I mean, as far as I can tell from sorting through the Rossi Posse forums, Rise Electric never officially broke up. oh. And I think, iirc, Kiefer Sutherland scouted them at one point. Does Tommy know Kiefer? Does Mark Burnett know Kiefer? hmmm...

That's it. Don't have a thrown together band, just to have the show. It just seemed too fake and contrived. I want to believe that whomever wins, is actually going to be fronting a band that has plans on actually attempting to be a band, long-term.

exactly.

*smoooooooooch*

Not sure if you were saying that Kiefer Sutherland scouted Lukas Rossi's band at one time but I do know that he was the road manager for Rocco Deluca and they filmed the experience for a VH1 special. Did you ever see that? As soon as I listened to Rocco's music, I thought Glowie might enjoy this guy. DH & I enjoyed it so much that we bought his CD. Have you heard of him Glowie? I could burn the CD for you if you'd like.

And, I definitely agree that there does need to be some way for these unknown talents to get heard out there. So many of them are a zillion times better than what he hear on the radio now.

I love Nookie. I thought the name sounded familiar when I read your email. Now that you said who Rocco Deluca is, that's why it sounds familiar. I haven't seen that documentary yet but I really really want to. I read about it somewhere. *runs to Netflix*

And yes, KS scouted Lukas' band.

Thank you, Nook. ::love::

The documentary was really neat to watch. Poor Keiffer didn't know what he was getting into. He worked his ass off for the band. In the end, they fired him LOL. I think he was happy they did.

I haven't watched the documentary yet, but I did get to see Rocco Delucca and the Burden live at the end of January (Taylore needed a concert buddy). They were very good - I picked up their cd at the concert.

Regarding Rockstar. The format and the idea behind the show have not outlived their usefulness, however I'm kind of worried that after the disappointment (in terms of ticket sales) that has been the Rockstar: Supernova tour and the lackluster album sales that could be what is hurting the show's chances this summer.

I wish they would do something with the House Band needing a lead singer because that would be a gig that could last and whoever wins wouldn't have to sing anything dorky unless he/she wrote it himself. You get what I mean?

I would love to see a really crack group of musicians that just happens to need a lead singer do this show.

well, the House Band idea is wonderful because I love House Band but I was under the impression that these guys don't want to have like a band band.

That's my thing. Keep this show around just for the GREAT and still UNDISCOVERED bands out there that need lead singers. Hold auditions for the band first. Or hire scouts to seek them out. Or hell, do it as a whole band thing. Have fifteen bands compete for a contract/tour. Remember when Ozzy did that? I loved that.
